HOW I WORK
When I’m out riding my road bike, I’m always surprised by how much trash—and how many nails—I see in the road. I stop and pick up what I can, especially the nails, because I know they could ruin someone else’s ride. I tend to approach work the same way: if I see a problem I can fix or an obstacle I can remove, I try to take care of it, right then and right there.
In DesignOps, I used to say: “If designers are doing something other than designing, I should be asking whether I can take it off their plate.” My job in operations was to smooth out friction, clear obstacles, and handle the work around the work so designers could focus on what they were there to do.
You rarely have all the answers yourself. What matters is knowing who to ask, being willing to ask, and building enough trust that people want to help each other. Strong relationships make organizations faster, smarter, and easier to navigate.
I’ve never been very interested in staying inside a narrow job description. If there’s a problem I can help solve, a person I can connect, or something I can take off someone’s plate, I want to be useful. For me, good work is often simply about noticing where you can help and then doing something about it.

I’m naturally curious and always learning. I read a lot, love being outdoors, and spend more time than I probably should following Philadelphia sports.
